1981 CJ7 Restoration - 2019.11.03

Continuing with rust sealing and top coating, I spent today working on the front axle, the Dana 30. Like the rear axle, I had stripped it with a wire wheel and used Mastercoat Permanent Rust Sealer to protect the metal from rusting. After the parts were sealed, I used the AG 111 top coat for a glossy and tough black finish. It's messy work, but the resulting finish is very durable  and should keep things rust-free for many years to come - I hope!

Rust sealer followed by the AG 111 top coat.

Kind of random, but I also installed the pinion seal on the rear axle housing, the AMC 20. I applied a light coat of RTV sealant around the outer edges of the seal and tapped it in with a block of wood.

Pinion seal installed. Installed the yoke as well, but did not photograph.
